Well done on dipping your toe in the water - though it sounds more as if you've dived in, being able to save that much at a stroke!

Hey, well done for getting in control of it all, it's a good feeling :)

The only thing i'd say about union membership is that my union actually offered me a lot of support, free advice etc on debt, as well as free legal advice, and loads of discounts on stuff. i've found it worth more than i've been paying for it, it pays for itself really.
current debt as at 10/01/11- £1250

HI - what a difference it will make :) What area do you work in? I would also be concerned about the union fees...

Over on the Old Style board they do the grocery challenges - I'm sure the discussion has started already :D

  • I'm a journalist/sub-editor, and have been a member for years but have never had any need to use the union. I am very fortunate in that as a sub-editor, there is always plenty of freelance work around (I successfully freelanced for 18 months), so there really is no need for me to shell out for it. Don't worry, I asked several senior colleagues about it and they have all cancelled too - there isn't even a union rep in my company.
