Xbox One Gaming Monitor

My son wants to buy a gaming monitor for his room to play his Xbox One. I have no clue tech-wise.
The guy in Currys recommended we buy one with a refresh rate of at least 144hz.
Can an HDMI support 144hz or do we need one with Display port?
I'm basically looking for the best option for no more than £180. Any advice appreciated.

What size monitor were you looking to get? You might be better off getting a tv, partially if your son has an Xbox One S or X, as those support 4k (4k video only the S), and 4k TVs can be cheaper than a monitor (and more practical to as he'll be able to watch tv on it too).
Also, try not to listen to much about what employees in Currys tell you. They work on a commission system and will try to upsell you everything (with little knowledge of what they are selling you).0 -

If he only using it for an Xbox One, then dont bother with 144hz. The Xbox one doesnt have any games that can output at this refresh rate, and any input lag improvement from having 144hz (and peopld would argue if there even is any) wouldnt matter with a controller.0

Allegedly the Xbox One X supports 120Hz. But honestly, don't waste your money. 60Hz will be fine - the console cannot push images out fast enough to take advantage of >60Hz monitors.
The main question is how big (in inches) you want the screen to be.0
