First spend of the month today. If you were in MrT’s and saw a woman tell her husband that he needs to get two more packets of toilet paper in order to get to £50... well, that was me. We went round with the calculator, adding up everything and were still under the “Spend £50 to get 5p/litre off fuel” threshold, when we got to the checkout. No idea how. (DH did the additions, so not my fault.)

Anyway, once I deduct the £11 spent on hair dye - comes from my own budget - and £1.20 DH contributed for biscuits for work, our spend today comes to £38.49/£130.20, leaving £91.71 for the remainder of the month. It was a biggish shop for us - we bought 10kg flour and 3 x 9 packets of toilet paper, as well as the usual yogurts, peppers and mushrooms.

£13 spent at the market this morning; there were some new food stalls, which is nice to see, and they seemed to be doing well. So I bought some raspberries & avocados (£3, planned) and £10-worth of smoked spicy game sausages (unplanned). The sausages came in packs of 6 long sausages, £7 each or 2 for £10, so I bought 2 packs, which I've split into 5 packs of 2 sausages each for the freezer, plus 2 in the fridge to spice up a leftover sausage casserole later on this week. Provided there are any sausages left over tomorrow! But there should be...

  • £176.63 so far but that leaves 23quid for fruit top up. I’m usually most expensive the first shop anyway so next few weeks should be a bit less

Hullo All - can I join please? My money-in starts on the last day of the month.
I'm starting on 31 Jan - 28 Feb and budgeting on £250 - I hope to spend less, but prices have shot up in the last few months, so we'll see.

Opening with a £50 spend on food and £18 on petrol (rounded up) - I got a 5p off a litre of fuel by spending £50 - so I topped up the freezer with some clearance bargains to make up the last £3 - something! Not a habit to get into - my next few shops should be a long way from £50 - and will be done in the local fruit + veg market lol.

  • Another £11.55 spent this weekend bringing my total so far to £96.14/£240. Will not be setting a foot in a shop until at least Thursday.

First spend of the month...£1.85 on milk and bread. Buying milk is possibly the thing we do most often as we have a tiny fridge where we live and won't be able to get anything better (and bigger) until later in the year (need to resite things to do with the boiler which is going to cost a bit).

Will need to go out tomorrow as no fresh fruit left and unfortunately the local market isn't on on a Monday so will grab more milk and some bananas possibly from the co-op.
