NT Tax Code

Since October I don't have to pay the tax, I put the money aside of course - but never heard from anyone wanting to collect it. How long does it normally take? I assume there no chance that they "forget" it?

  • No, I highly doubt it! Unfortunately.

What happened with my OH was that he was told he'd be put on Nil TC. He signed to agree to hand that money over. Then the OR solicitors (people who actually collect the money) got in touch and he had to send a payslip pre-NTC to them. They've asked as soon as he get the NTC applied, to then send a photocopy of the last payslip before the NTC and the first one after. And obviously send them the money every month.

He still isn't on NTC and he only has another 5 months of BR left so they are doing themselves out of the money with the hold up.

Best bet would be to give your OR a call. Don't be tempted (not saying you are but you know..) to dip into it, these officials do not forget, they might just be taking their time.

It depends. An IPA cannot be made after you're BR but if you had it in place before ED then yeah, it still stands. For the full year of your BR.

They are only having what was never yours, if you see what I mean, so I would save it and call and see what they say. Better to be safe.

    And congrats on the ED!

The tax is normally collected under an IPA just made for the tax. Lot's of people don't even realise it's one of the forms they have signed.

You really need to check the status of the unpaid tax with your OR otherwise it could come back to bite you later. At certain times CW or whoever collects the money seem to get massively backlogged (or at least that is how it seems).
