Not hearing back from job applications and never hearing back on time from job interviews

There are many applicants who put no time or effort into their applications and who fail to turn up to interviews without bothering to tell the employer.
It really isn't as one-sided as your post implies.
So isn't that even more of a reason that those who do bother to put in the effort and time for applications and interviews, be given a bit of respect and an update; or a yes or no answer?0 -
I'm an IT contractor so end up applying for jobs quite regularly as its fixed term work.
How are you finding the contract market?

I agree that where you have been invited for an interview, I would expect the employer to let you know the outcome one way or another.
However, I also think, based on some experience dealing with job applications, that if they tell you you will hear within x days, you should take that as them telling you they will *aim* to let you know in that timescale, rather than it being a hard deadline.
Things don't always go to plan. They may have other , urgent matters which come up and have to take priority, it may be that it takes them longer than they anticipated to be able to met and discuss applicants, or that their first choice didn't respond promptly to an offer so they can't move on and reject or make offers to the second choice. They may have underestimated how quickly they would make a decision, or have had a late application which they think it is worth interviewing.
I agree that if they have said that they will let all applicants know they ought to do so, but again, this can be more time consuming than anticipated, and since it isn't something which has any immediate business it it may slip to being a low priority.
I would expect anyone interviewed to be informed one way or the other what the outcome is but this can take longer than anticipated. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0
