Hi guys,

I've checked my credit reports more thorough recently and discovered I have a default from 12/2014. My question is why has it been marked 5 times (5 consecutive months) as defaulted, then 9 months it's got 'no information' and 1 year after the original default - another default has been registered?

Also, any suggestions on why the total amount has changed from £324 to £0 after that month? I certainly have not made any payments. I've posted a topic about a week ago briefly discussing some issues but decided to start a fresh one since now I have more details. Thanks in advance.

It’s the same default, it’s just showing a status update for the account.
The balance shows as zero as the debt was probably sold.

As debts are sold in bulk, it could be the new owner decided not to chase the debt for commercial reasons.

Are you still living there and incurring water charges?
Have you cleared the default? Says it was settled 14/12/2014 (with UK Search?)

SW pass their defaulted accounts to UK Search or Moorcroft. If no success (and it is over a certain amount) then Shulmans Solicitors, court and then HCEO's.
As debts are sold in bulk, it could be the new owner decided not to chase the debt for commercial reasons.

They never sell the debts but they are "assigned". The assignment in not a legal one just their turn of phrase which means they are not interested as it is with UK Search.

I haven't been living there from end of 2014, thank God. I haven't cleared the default and I don't know why it says it was settled. The last ever DCA to contact me regarding this was Advantis on 2/2/2015.

The account was joint (between 4 tenants). We are jointly and severally responsible. When the last bill came I was the only one who paid their share, the other tenants left without paying theirs - which is why you see the reduction of the outstanding amount going from £454 to £279. The extra £45 added afterwards is a admin fee which SW warned us about.

Do you think this debt would become statute barred after 6 years? I've read somewhere thar CCA-covered debts do become something statute barred but not sure about this one since it is not CCA.

Most debts are statute barred after 6 years in England and Wales. It's a straightforward money claim from Southern Water IF UK Search want to pony up the fee which they may do - but it is under their normal limit.

Any SB debt is still there but court is out after 6 years. Seems they may just be seeing who will pay before it times out.

File it and come back if you get anything other than the usual threats.

This one has always intrigued me as it is clearly not a "fee" but a punt at getting money. But as this one is not going to court and in the scheme of things it is minor, then it is all academic.
