BRO and discharge date

Hi everyone,

I declared in Feb 2018, so due to be discharged soon. I've just checked my Experian report and it gives a discharge date of 2023. This is the date of the end of BRO, but I was under the impression that I'd be discharged from the bankruptcy after a year, and BRO would continue.

Is that correct? My main concern is that I'd really like to take on another job once discharged, but obviously if the OR will take any extra income there doesn't seem to be much point. I wasn't asked to pay any excess earnings during the year of my bankruptcy.

TIA

Have you looked on the insolvency register?

I’m guessing you mean Feb 19?

You can only be assessed for surplus income during the 12 months bankruptcy period. If an IPA is agreed at any time during bankruptcy it will last for a maximum of 3 years. But once you’re discharged next month then you’re home and dry and are free to take on another job without the OR taking any of your surplus income.

I was under the impression that the credit reference agencies did not record BROs so I’m surprised at that actually.
  • Thanks for that. Yes, meant 2019. Had a look at the register after one of you posted and it gives a discharge date and also a BRO end date.

    Thanks again!
