Dealer wants final payment by bank transfer?!?!

Hi,
I've just ordered a new van and paid the £500 deposit so that it can be ordered from the factory.
When I asked about the final payment, they said that they only accept Bank transfers as they've had people scamming them with credit cards in the past, which makes me very nervous.
We are talking about a large sum of money here and I'd like to pay the final balance by credit card so that I have all the legal protections available to me should anything go wrong.
The company has been running for 10 years and has many great reviews to back this up but transferring a large sum of money like that doesn't sit right with me, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Dealers are unlikely to accept a large payment by CC, the charges are too high, most will only accept around £500. You should have paid the deposit by CC as you would have then had the protection. What about debit card, that is how I paid my last car - £300 deposit on CC and the rest on DC.0

They didn't mention the option off using a DC, just bank transfer, which they'll need 24 hrs before delivery.Nice to save.0
