Hi, yesterday we submitted our mortgage application to HSBC. Our mortgage adviser has come back to me today and said HSBC have said they 'can't read' the total paid to my partner on one of his payslips.
It's a digital payslip and the easiest way to explain it is is looks like there's a faded white line through the whole payslip at the top of the last column, this has the pay date, pay period, his tax code, name and then his net pay listed.
They have asked if there's another copy they can have but what we have provided is what he receives from work and they don't issue physical copies anymore. He has called Head Office to see if they can provide him with another but we're not hopeful. To us and the adviser we sent the payslips to, the figure is readable as the 'line' only goes through the top of the figures, it just looks like a slight smudge.
I'm wondering what we can do if there's no other copy available? Are HSBC likely to decline our application because of this?

Could they work out the "total" from the other numbers?
Does he get paid wildly different amounts in each pay period?
Are they from the same employer and this is the final in a time sequence?0 -
If you speak to his payroll department they should be able to provide a year to date report, essentially like a p60/p45 which will corroborate pay. Not sure if HSBC will definitely accept it but its something else you could use as proof of earnings.0

I think so, the deductions section on the payslip is clear.
The pay amounts are slightly different each month but not majorly
Yes they're from the same employer and the one they have an issue with is December, the other 2 from November and October also have the same 'marks' on them but its this one they've asked for another copy of.0 -
How there can be something 'faded' on a digital payslip?
It can only fade ot have a printing issue on the paper payslip?
HSBC are a lender and are entitled to ask for whatever they want.
Are you working for a big company, where HR/Head Office are really just names to you as opposed to working for a small firms where every one knows each other and you need to maintain a good realationship with your colleagues?
If former I would threaten HR with a formal grievance if they don't provide you with a proper payslip they are required to do by law.0 -

hsbc arent interested in calculating the YTD figures themselves. They are interested in seeing if the payslips have been generated properly to figure out if they are real payslips or faked ones.
The fact that a digital payslip has a smudge on it would further increase suspicion that the payslips have been altered in some way0
