Cordless vacuum advice.

Options
I am after so ideas/advice on getting a cordless vacuum for my old dad.

He has a corded cylinder vacuum downstairs and an old upright one for the upstairs.

He got a Vax Gator hand vac about 4-5 years ago and last week he said it took 2 hours to charge from flat so I know that is wrong. Me and my missus were there on Saturday and he put it on charge and it was about 2 hours so she went to do the stairs with it and done the downstairs. About 1 min later she comes into the kitchen saying the Gator was not working and smoke was coming out of the vents.

After that it would not charge up so we left it.

Has anybody got any advice on cordless vacs as the old man only wants to pay about £50, not much I know, but it will mostly be used for the stairs as they are hard to do with the cylinder or upright and we normally do the cleaning for him but in the past we have caught him try to do the stairs with the upright and as he is nearly 80 it's not a good idea.
