a little brandy at bedtime works for me, though when I used to get it really bad I'd get out of bed and let my train of thought run its course or until I was tired enough to return to bed

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?
  • ...DS3 swears by elderberry rob ...but then he'll eat elderberries fresh from the bush!

I always thought elderberries were toxic until they were cooked?

Seems to be backed up by a quick squizz at google, but sounds as if you probably need to consume quite a lot before you get more than a bit of a tummy ache.

gargling with a tablespoon of salt in warm water is very effective for a sore throat...dont drink it

eating a packet of crisps helps sore throats due to antiseptic properties of salt...having a bath while the sink has warm water and olbas oil in it is nice to breath in very comforting
    onwards and upwards
  • We were discussing this at work the other day. I said about honey and lemon for a sore throat. A girl I work with whos parents are from india told me her mum swears by turmeric in milk.

For colds: I take honey lemon and ginger drink (from proper lemon and grated ginger).

I take baths sprinkled with a few drops of tea tree oil in the hopes that it will kill off anything .... inhaling the steam too.

If I’m coughing loads then I take a big spoon of honey just before I get into bed so it coats the inside of my throat.

But I’m the sort who is annoyed they are ill and mostly carries on.

I did have a seriously bad bought of hayfever once and read that cumin or turmeric in a glass of water can reduce the inflammation and hayfever... um I don’t actually recommend it as it was seriously not pleasant!

Also my dad used to take a spoonful of cider vinegar and then drink loads of cold water for headaches and feeling queasy.... I think it just shocks you so you decide you’re better ... but at least it might have some effect!

Quit sugar and caffeine for a few days, you will become so tired that on day 3 you would contemplate sleeping stood up at a bus stop!!

The first week of no sugar and no caffeine, is the soundest nightime sleep I’ve ever had.

When I was little I made 'elderberry wine' that's to say crushed elderberries mixed with water. The crimson vomit lasted for a couple of days
