Negative equity and co ownership

I did look into a negative equity company but they were looking a few thousand pounds to write letters to NICO to get our debt written off. This is all pending the house actually selling as well.
That sounds like a scam. I don't see what they could possibly do that you couldn't do yourself. A couple of thousand quid for writing some letters, nice work if you can get it. You're not the only forum users in this position with NICO. There's a section of the forum specifically for Northern Ireland so you might find others who have been through the same thing there.0
