O/S Daily Saturday 18 January 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv with a cuppa, I'm on here with a cuppa, both boys still in their pits, don't expect to see them for a while.
Dark, damp, cold and blustery again.
Dinner last night was ham, cheese and mushroom omlettes, with salad and chips, all eaten and enjoyed. Tonight is going to be a takeaway pizza from our favourite place.
Yesterday was a day spent running around all day and not feeling like much was achieved, but then late afternoon most of what we needed to achieve had been done. A little more to do today.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC, I don't think we have rain forecast for a few days!!
Well me and Sparkle got on just fine last night. She explored the house and kept popping in for a stroke and to make sure I was still here. At 5.00 she woke me up with her little squeaking noises and ran downstairs. I followed and she sat staring at he feeding mat. I had left her some tiny biscuits down, but they were still untouched. I assume she didn't like them! I put her some Whiskers in jelly down but she just stared at it. I assumed she didn't like that either! Three different varieties later it's still untouched! She doesn't seem to like any of them! Carer said last night she is currently on Felix in jelly and that's the only brand I didn't buy!! Aaaargh! When did cats get so fussy! In the past any cats we had ate whatever you gave them!
Oh well that aside she's a little sweetie and much friendlier than I was expecting her to be. Once we get the food supply sorted I'm sure we will be the best of friends! So today I need to make an unscheduled trip to town to buy Felix!
I got some ys leeks when shopping so they are earmarked for Leek and Potato soup at some point today. Other than that not much planned.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning All
I think Sparkle has settled in just fine TA and is just letting you know who's boss!
Housework was done when I got home from work yesterday and the new firestick arrived so I caught up on a couple of programmes I had missed.
Off to Glasgow this morning to sort out a bank account then the day's my own, also need to take something back to Ikea but that won't take long on the way.
Bedding in the WM, it looks like the weather will be good so I can hang it out later I hope.
Have a good weekend, take care. XX0 -
Good morning, it's fine and dry here, cold though.
Thanks for starting NMLC, hope you get your jobs done today.
I didn't get to post yesterday, my laptop was on the blink, it's suffering from old age. DH diddled with it, and it seems to be ok, for now anyway.
Sparkle is settling in then TA, training you to give her exactly what she wants!! Cats are very fussy, at least ours were, and we were doting owners so they ruled the roost. We had one cat who would only eat white fish - I used to buy the cheapest frozen fish I could and microwave it, crazy!!
I managed to read back last night, and was sorry to read you'd had a bad day Gers, hope you are feeling better now, I know from experience how difficult it can be with very old parents.
Didn't do much yesterday, but we are going out today, to Northumberlandia - it's a huge figure of a reclining lady made from quarry waste I think, formed into grassed areas with walks and viewpoints over the surrounding countryside. It's really cleverly done, amazing, loads of people go for walks there. It's not far, and it's a change. It's in Northumberland of course.
That's the plan anyway.
Hope everyone has a good day.
Take care folks0 -
Morning all
Very sharp frost here it looks very pretty out the window but its not meant to get above 7 deg all day ! so a cold one in store.
DD pup and I are up and OH and our pup still in bed, dd's pup is a manic little thing and has a mad 1/2 hr of zoomies and then flops down for a sleep, she is so funny !
TA glad you both had a good night , she had obviously sorted the pecking order already !!
Going to have a good clean through this morning, oh can do upstairs and dd and I will do down along with puppy wrangling.
Will go out for a shorter walk today as pup still cannot go too far and then have an afternoon nap with a film on in the background and the fire lit.
Dinner tonight will be the prawn and scallop pasta dd will have a cheese pasta with fried mushrooms and onions.
Hope you all have good days xx0 -
Morning
TA less than a day and already she owns you :rotfl:
Having a bituva day today ....bit of cleaning bit of shopping bit of chillin
Only real plan is to chat to my age UK phone friend this morning. Shes been really unwell since Christmas day so hoping she has had a better week.
I am still on a self imposed cooking ban due to the food mountain in the freezer its killing me but needs must I have to satisfy the need watching chef programmes instead. Tonight then it will probably be a bacon cheese burger with some sweet potato fries.
Have a great day all0 -

Good morning folks.
I've been out early doors for the Saturday shop! I like to hit it early as after 10.00a.m. the shops get busier (it's to do with the licensing laws in Scotland). I've just fed and watered DM and waiting for her to finish her breakfast. Had to turn down an invitation to meet Camelotbecause of Saturday routine.
It's pretty chilly outside despite the bright sunshine. I had to tuck my jumper in to keep away the cold spots when driving. :rotfl:
I've opened a new online savings account at PO, another yearly bonus one, it's a merry-go-round at times.
SCARLET- Northumberlandia is lovely, well worth the trip. Hope you enjoy it.
TA - some cats are really fussy! My childhood cat would only eat Whiskas and would rather have starved than eat Kit-e-Kat. :rotfl: Mind you, I think she was supplementing her diet with mice and birds.
NELSKI - well done on the determination. It's so easy to give in to temptation - think it may have been Oscar Wilde who said 'I can resist anything expect temptation'.
Right, I hear noises from DM's room so I'll remove her breakfast dishes and set to with the washing up. Did I mention how much I hate washing up????:(
On the good news side, my walking is slowly becoming more normal. I still wobble and am not confident without a crutch when outside, indoors I'm doing my exercises, walking backwards and sideways and doing the clams. I'm hopeful that the wobble will go!
Now I wish everyone a happy and peaceful Saturday.0 -

It's a lovely day here and 0 degrees  There's still ice on some cars even though the sun is shining !
I made 4 large tubs of soup yesterday and then went bonkers and made a banana cake, as there were 3 unappetising bananas left in the fruit bowl. Only trouble was and it's been such a long time since I baked, I forgot to add in an egg. Oooops! Still it tastes lovely anyway.
Today I must do the ironing as I'm down to 1 pair of jeans . I also want to hoover downstairs and steam clean the kitchen floor. Then this afternoon I can perhaps start on my new book called "Found".
Last night we watched the new Aladdin film and we thoroughly enjoyed it, even though it's a Disney film and I'm an oldie......... I'm still a kid at heart. I think it could become the new "Frozen", you heard it first here folks ! I can imagine all the little girls singing along......I was trying to and not ( cover your ears Sparkle ) strangling a cat :rotfl:.
TA she's already put her paw down. Mine would only eat whiskers and they would arrive from nowhere as soon as I took the tin out of the cupboard and it wasn't even open  Don't know how they knew which tin was which, they didn't come for a tin of beans.
BTDT enjoy your massage, I'm sure it will be soothing.
Scarlet enjoy your day out.
Right I'd better shift myself and do this ironing, as it won't do itself...... I wish it could !
Take care all
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Morning all! Getting dressed later to meet friends for lunch. Had a bit of a feeling a bit sick and dizzy yesterday, might be the cold, haven't felt right since last week...Have chucked the cat out, he was doing zoomies again, will no doubt see him when he's completed his tasty treats round the houses...
There's a secret party for OHs mum later on, will have to get there early wheile he takes her out of the house for a bit.
Think I may do a bit of knitting after, I finally finished the length of the cowl thing, now I want to add a trim to it which would be a lot easier with crochet, but as I can't crochet, knit it is, and find some holes to put the wool in anyway...
TA, I feed not our cat on Iams or Purina biscuits. He eats them and isn't allowed to complain about it :)Maybe she wants to be stoked while eating? One of mine did before...good luck with her in any caseHappy Saturday to all....
Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
