Mortgage fee

Hi all,
After years of being on an interest only mortgage we have been left an inheritance by a relative that will clear our mortgage.
my question is, will we need a solicitor to get involved with paying it off as I don't trust the mortgage company to just pay them the lump sum.

thanks

  • Why don't you trust the mortgage company?

You ask for written confirmation of the total outstanding balance, up to a certain date in the future.

    Pay the amount.

Pay the amount due to the lender for confirming the mortgage is settled and the charge can be removed from the property.

You apply to the land registry to update the deeds.

Why would you want to pay a solicitor to do this?
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • its just that the mortgage company has changes names a couple of times and have been less than sympathetic when I lost my job and we were struggling with the payments.
I assumed a solicitor would have to apply to the land registry?
  • Sadly, financial institutions tend to be very unsympathetic when you need them to be understanding.

No, you don't need a solicitor for removing the charge at the land registry.

Save yourself a few quid and do it yourself!
