  • According to our broker they use checkmyfile which is an amalgamation of Experian, Equifax, TransUnion and something else which I forget. It’s very thorough. You can sign up for free to check your file and easily cancel via the messaging system which was great for a phone-phobic like me!
  • Here is the wording from a DIP request

    Request for Decision In Principle
I want to let you know that we may use the information you provide us in the following ways –

In order to credit score an application and confirm identity, we may carry out a search with TransUnion, Equifax and Experian, (Credit Reference Agencies), including the voters roll using all applicants’ names and any previous names held.
A record may be held by them whether or not the application proceeds and a link between you and any joint applicant may be created.
We will make our initial lending decision based on an automated assessment of your application using information you have provided to us, information we already know about you and information we have obtained from TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. The outcome of the automated assessment may be that your application should be referred for manual underwriting, in which case it will be referred to an underwriter for consideration.
We will consider credit information held including that of anybody financially linked to you, and will check your details with our records and Fraud Prevention Agencies.
We will record details of your current financial commitments with other organisations.
If you give us false or inaccurate information and we suspect fraud, we will record this in our records and theirs. We do this in order to protect ourselves and our customers from theft and fraud.
This information may be used by us and other organisations for fraud prevention.
Please be aware that obtaining a Decision in Principle will not record a footprint against your applicant’s credit record(s) until the application is submitted.

Usually Equifax and TransUnion and can migrate to Experian during process if address issues arise.

Thank you for comments and info.

So based on the above wording for the decision in principle, and the fact that it wasn't even referred and was approved straight away, I should be okay anyway?

I have disputed it now so it shows as a notice of correction pending an answer. Plus can see on my credit file it is literally £4 if a real person takes a look rather than just a computer that can see a few 'late payments'...

I just really hope it gets wiped off my report ASAP as they have said it will :(

If it sailed through before without referring it shouldnt come up again. However if you have now put a NoC on the file it may refer the case on application as manual notes on credit files tend to break the banks automated systems.

I'm sure it would be fine but to be honest you would have been better dealing with it once you knew it was going to be a problem
  • Thanks Deleted_User, that's good to hear.

If TW do correct my file I will ask Equifax to remove the notice of correction as it seems if TW correct it, it will just change from late payments to 'up to date'.
Equifax do say they can remove a NOC whenever the individual requests so i'll do that if I can.

Just an update, they removed the late payments today and Equifax have also removed my notice of correction. Very pleased as that was rather concerning just before a mortgage application. Hopefully no further issues now! Thanks all.
