Bad history, should I avoid?

Hi all, first post on here. I have previously had a few defaults with various different lenders, all have been paid in full, and all have dropped off my credit file. Would I be wise to avoid applying for a mortgage with these banks, as although the accounts have been Paid off, and the accounts have disappeared from my credit file, I presume the banks will still hold records? I’m a first time buyer, buying with my partner. We have a big deposit of £100 K. Just don’t want to waste an application, and get rejected. Was wondering if anyone has experience with this?
Many thanks

  • If they were paid off and settled then there is no particular reason to avoid them in my opinion. They may score you less than a lender you didnt owe money to but if your overall credit profile is strong it might be enough to get over that.
When a few of the high street lenders have swallowed up all the credit card and loan companies over the years there is only so much you can do to avoid them.

A broker will look at your overall profile and match you to the best lender for your circumstances.

I take a slightly different view.
I think it depends how bad it was. If you had 10 defaults with a particular bank, then I would probably avoid them. If it was 1 and you cleared it in full then I would probably not actively avoid them.
