Slow cooker porridge?

Does anyone have a tried and tested method to make porridge in the SC overnight? I checked the GC thread but couldn't see one.
I have been looking and there is ones that say put in a ceramic dish in the SC, others that say you need posh oats? Most say it comes out like wallpaper paste
I have a cheap timer I can use if it only takes a couple of hours?
I just want a simple porridge I can cook in the SC ready for people to help themselves in the morning .... is it possible?
Thanks

I used to make it but use the microwave now. My method was simply 1 part oats, 1 part milk and 1 part water. Stir and leave on low overnight. My cooker is an old one that is only 90w on low so really does slow cook, a lot of the new ones are 250w so too fast.0

Why would you want to waste 8 hours of electricity for something that can be cooked in 4 minutes?#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660

We need a new microwave as ours is far to rusty to use now and not sure I will bother replacing it. Normally do it in the pan anyway but had seen it somewhere and thought it seemed like a one pot time saver.
A SC uses the same amount of electricity as a low watt light bulb so hardly a huge cost? Plus I have a timer so only really 4 hours on low max for breakfast for everyone. I have several people eating over a 2 hour period, school run with kids, going to work and then DH coming in from night shift.
Frees up a bit time in the morning for me and allows people to help themselves without destroying my kitchen (as many normally do!)

Hi,
oh jings, soak your oats over night in a bowl, in morning, stick them in the mic, for one minute, put kettle on for the coffee, back to mic, stir, zap them for another minute, let them sit, make the coffee, sit down, enjoy.0 -
this is the simplest recipe that I have found

Because 'ordinary' oats are actually quick cook ones, some people dislike the texture which results from cooking them so slowly.
If you find your usual oats make the result a little too soft for you, then try this one (steel cut oats means pinhead oats or coarse oatmeal)
