Train ticket confusion

Hi All

I have tried to find a thread for my concern/query/observation but can't. So if anyone Ould point in the right direction I would be grateful.

I want to travel from Selby to Kiveton Bridge tomorrow by train.

I already have the ticket to Doncaster as part of my pass.

So I searched for train tickets from:

Doncaster to Kiveton - no tickets available

Journey one option (£8.50 in total)
Selby to Kiveton B - £8.50 with my railcard

Journey 2 option (same trains as above - £24.15)
Selby to Retford - £18.55 with my railcard
Retford to Kiveton Bridge - £5.60 with my railcard

Journey 3 option (again same trains as above - £11.20)
Doncaster to Retford - £5.60
Retford to Kiveton Bridge - £5.60

I am obviously going to get the cheapest - despite having paid for some of the journey already.

Has anyone else found that overbuying the journey makes it cheaper - is this something else that we need to consider when money saving? I know that the train ticket split apps are really useful - but has anyone else had this?

Thanks
