Notice period

I am about to start a new job on Monday. This is a 6 month fixed contract. I really wanted a different job, but I’m still waiting to hear back either way. My problem is, the contract for the job I’m meant to be starting on Monday says that I have to give 3 months notice if I want to leave. My question is, if I‘m offered the other job next week, having only just started work, will I really have to work that notice??

The only people who can answer that question are the people who've given you the contract. Remember that if you break a contract you can be sued for any associated costs to the employer e.g. costs to find your replacement, any costs over your normal pay rate needed to pay your replacement or temporary replacement. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

3 month notice on a 6 month contract!0

I know, it’s crazy right?!0

If that's what it says on the contract, and you accept the job, you have to abide by the terms. If the contract says they have to give you 3 months notice I'm sure you would expect them to abide by it.0

I don't understand sorry, do you mean your contract only comes into force after 2 days of working there? So you are starting on the 1st for example but your contract states the start date is the 3rd?Yes, I understand, but they only have to give me a months notice!
Did you go back over this point in the contract to ask them to amend the notice period to you? What did they say? If you weren't happy why did you agree to it ?Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

I mean, if I was there for a day and decided to leave, would they really make me work the 3 months?
I haven’t started yet, I start tomorrow. I am signing the contract tomorrow too. I am going to discuss it with them first though.0
