Apple iTunes free 3 month trial

Hi, apologies I’m sure this has been covered before, But I’ve just signed up to the free 3 month trial on iTunes. I wanted to create a playlist for my daughters birthday tomorrow, am I correct in thinking I can download as many songs as I like for free??! I just clicked one song that said 99p so now I’m worried I’ve got this completely wrong! I just need to know what the actual trial involves and can I actually add new music for free

It's Apple Music, which is a streaming service.

I'm sure you can download music for offline playing, much like Spotify, but you won't "own" it.

You can buy music on iTunes of course but as you've found out, it'll cost you.
  • Your 3-month trial is the same as paid subscription. It actually is a subscription, available for 3 months from the day you activated it. Having a subscription gives you an opportunity to make your own playlists, add music lo your library only inside Apple Music. The same situation with downloading music - you can e.g. add whole playlist to your library and download it, but songs will be available only inside the app (but available already without internet)
Explaining thing with buying songs: downloading (buying) music on iTunes means owning exact songs. Main difference from Apple Music is that 2nd one is more about caching tracks. But you still can achieve what you want - make your own playlists and "cache" them
  • You can add songs to your library as I am doing this now.
  • If you cancel the music goes, may be obvious to some but am going to point it out as I didn’t know.
