"Old" partner & mortgage extension

My fixed rate mortgage is coming to an end and I've just had a chat with my lender about it.
The house is in joint names with my wife, in 64 she's 69.
The bank have a rule that they will not extend a mortgage where an owner is over 70.

Can anyone offer advice as to how to get round this.
Can my wife transfer her ownership to me?
Or possibly the kids (both working)?

Thanks

  • Your fixed rate is coming to an end or your whole mortgage is coming to an end?

Are you in a financial position where remortgaging is an option?

  • Speak to a broker.
Depending on your income / situation there are lenders that will go beyond 70 so a move to another lender could potentially be an option. But there isn’t enough info in your post to know whether or not that’s possible.
