Mortgage freedom

We bought a house 3 months back. It has been a dream for so long that it took a while to sink in.

But now that it has, we want to make progress towards being mortgage free. I will try to be regular in documenting my journey here.

Our mortgage amount was £132600 (85% LTV at 2%) and we added a product fee of £995 to the mortgage. So, the starting amount was £133595. We repaid the product fee soon after getting the mortgage.

We start this year with £131906. My aim is to repay at least £10,000. A bit ambitious but there is no harm trying.

We set up a regular overpayment of £50 per month. We also overpaid £2000 as we are in a bit of a financial surplus now having just earned our year end bonus/salary credits. However, getting the remaining £8000 will be a challenge.
