Default dates advice

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping for some advice following an article I read on Debtcamel.
I entered into a DMP in mid-2014 and only recently I noticed that two of my defaults were not registered until March 2015 before the debts were sold on. I recently complained to the DCA who now owns the debt and they replied saying that although they were not the owner of the debt at the time, they are willing to back date the default to August 2014 (which they have). However, after checking Experian I noticed that although the default date has been ammended for the debt , there is still a record of the debt with the original creditor which although shows as settled (due to the sale of the debt), still has a default date of March 2015. I contacted Experian but they gave the impression that this is correct. Do I need to complain to both the original creditor and current owner or the debt? Or would the original debt record still fall off my credit file in August this year?
Thanks in advance everyone.

Hi Sourcrates,
Thanks for the advice. So for any debts in future where I feel the default date should be ammended, I need to have a complaint upheld by both the current DCA and original creditor?0 -

Well yes, because the new creditor uses the default date of the old creditor, so if thats wrong, they both need to be in the loop to change it.
Defaults are a prickly subject, creditors work from guidelines, they are not out and out rules, this is why there is so much discrepency with default dates, everyone interprets the rules differently, so you need to make your efforts count, and make it as idiotproof as you can, if you find yourself in this situation again, complain to both creditors/companies concerned.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
