Changing current account- will this effect applying for nortgage?

I’m going to be applying for a mortgage in November. If I change my current account now will that effect my chances? My background is that I was made bankrupt 8 years ago but have an excellent credit rating now. I just don’t want to mess it up as it’s only been 8 years so there is a chance it may not go through anyway. Any thoughts? I’ve been with my current bank for 8 years. Many thanks x

  • When you apply for a new current account this will show on your credit file as a hard search. If this is the only credit account you plan to apply for before your mortgage application in November the impact of this will be minimal as you say all other things on your file currently look good. If you are going to be applying to switch utilities, applying for credit cards or any other credit agreements you just want to make sure you don't do too many at the same time. Usually these are looked at over a 6-12 month period.

1 new current account application will be fine.
