This year, I want to cut down on eating out, takeaways and convenience food so I have started preparing a meal plan. I can see there are a few apps out there to help with this but I would appreciate some thoughts from people who have used them.
I'm looking for one which I can upload/link to recipes from various places (a lot seem to work with US recipe sites only), provides a shopping list and also works with a store cupboard inventory?
Any guidance appreciated!

I shall be watching this thread with interest to see what apps other people use. I have tried a couple in the past - Yummly and Big Oven - but I didn't get on very well with them. Partly because they are American, but also perhaps I am a luddite who secretly prefers to menu plan using an A5 notebook and a pen ......
I could be persuaded to go digital, if someone can recommend a really user-friendly app.0 -
I don’t know about App’s - I meal plan with pencil and paper, have a look at what I’ve got in, and build the weeks meals and shopping list around that.
I did post this earlier on the Grocery Challenge thread (join it, it’s a fab help)
It’s 99p on Amazon today and has meal plans in - might help, good luck and keep us posted x

I CBA with apps.I just write an inventory of the food I've got in the cupboards, fridge n freezer, every week.
Then I do a list of anything I need, possible meals I can make out of what I've got, then I do a rough meal plan for the week.
It might sound old fashioned, but It works for me"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Sorry - never found an app that works for me!
I have a chalk board on my fridge (good old sticky-backed plastic) and I have the days of the week written up on the bottom half. Top of the board I note things down as I run out of them. Once a week (ish) I think about what’s in the fridge/freezer, what I’m doing (e.g. lunch out - so I’ll only need a light meal that evening; committee meeting so it needs to be quick) and write down seven meals. I don’t bother writing down lunch as it’s always soup or leftovers or a pitta with ham/cheese. I also note down ‘get X out of freezer’ if relevant.
I take a photo of the board before I go shopping so I don’t forget the things I’ve run out of. Other stuff is based on what’s on offer or YS. I’m very flexible, meals get swapped or pushed on a day or two if something comes up.
So I’ve realised, writing all this down, that actually I do most of it in my head! Sorry that’s not much help to you, I’m an enthusiastic user of technology but have just never found an app that works with my system. I have just started using Listonic for groceries but doubt if I’ll keep it up.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
