Keep an eye out for Vintage KG sales too, there's a couple of companies that seem to do them. You pay a small entry fee then basically get charged per kg of clothing you buy.

Some interesting finds can be uncovered there.

Our local recycling firm have opened a warehouse "shop" where they offload all the clothing etc. that's been dumped over the last week. We go in & sort through builder's bags full of clothing in all sorts of states, from "brand new with tags" to "don't touch without hand sanitiser" but mostly ok and it's 50p per item. Although it's mostly Pr1mark/supermarket stuff, we've had some fabulous bargains out of those bags. I'm usually looking with my business hat on, as there will be good vintage/exotic fabric in there, but my younger daughter regularly emerges from the bags of "tat" clutching fabulous designer goodies, sometimes needing a stitch or two or a button replaced, but she could sashay down the red carpet any day in some of her finds & look totally at home!

A lot of it is the stuff that charity shops have rejected; too individual, needs cleaning or mending, not "high street" or "current" enough. So ideal for people who aren't overly bothered about blending in, or are an unusual shape or size. Also perfect for "upcycling" into something new. It might be worth seeing if there's something similar near you?

  • Start with local Charity Shops.
You may need to visit regularly and sift through a few things, but there are great bargains and great clothes to be had!
Just yesterday, my partner bought a coat. Unique and good quality as well as functional. £4.50 😊

depends on your size/shape but bon marche sells very nice things these days, good enough not to be throwaway but cheap and with a range of trouser lengths. The only place I can get trousers to fit me
Strange you say that, but this is one shop I avoid like the plague because of the "square" / shapeless cuts and synthetic material.

However I picked up a David Emmanuel dress for £2 from the chazzer last week that could easily have passed for Phase Eight - and of course when I later googled it could see he's a BM label.

It's a long way from designing Diana's wedding dress! :D

I was a big fan of charity shops, but it takes time to find something useful. I've recently become a patatam addict, used but very good condition clothes, more expensive than charity shops, but for me it's easier and less time consuming than walking around the town's charity shops looking for a bargain

Kinga, I had to Google patatam as I've never heard of them but it appears they have closed down the website . Looks like I missed out there

Have bought some nice clothes from Bon Marche- they have some decent large size clothes at reasonable prices but there do seem to be more and more synthetic fibres which I avoid like the plague. You need to be choosy!
    They are still trading.

Especially good for swimming costumes which die rather fast when they are regularly exposed to chlorinated swimming pools! Bought a couple this week @ £18 which compares well with a great number of other shops

David Emmanuel hasn't designed for them for a few years now. He had a regular range for many years and then- suddenly- gone
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

I saw another (and similar) David Emmanuel dress yesterday in another chazzer selling for £5, so felt v pleased with my chazzer find of £2, even though it's not for me. Looked at Phase Eight sale stuff online last night and it's really gone downhill.
