Council Tax Direct Debit

Hi All

I’ve checked our council tax band on the direct gov website and it is band C - which seems correct.

Looking at the Northampton council site, band C for Duston where I live costs £1643.07 per year.
Our direct debit to the council is £158.00 per month, which is £1896.00 per year.

Am I missing something or are we paying too much?! The council don’t send letters or emails anymore and there no online account to check any details out. I thought I’d see what you guys thought before spending hours on hold trying to see if there is a problem.

Usually council tax is paid by 10 payments per year, not 12.

As above, a quick Google and a peek at the Northampton Council website tells you that its usually paid over 10 months. Its typically paid April to January and nothing in Feb March.

Your council must issue some sort of council tax bill. I believe they are obliged to. If not by post then online.
