How best to use smartphone in supermarket?

Sainsbury's have an app which sends specific Nectar offers through to your phone every week. It's not very good IMO but that's probably because I don't buy much in Sainsbury's so rarely tempted to buy the products even with extra points. I'd rather save real money in Aldi!:D
I downloaded the app because it was the easiest way to double up on Nectar points in November.
I think checking mysupermarket at home like you do now is the best thing OP. I remember visiting a local branch of Sainsbury's a couple of months ago and the wifi signal was so poor that I had to go close to the wall and access Costa next door.:D1 -
If I know I shall be going near a particular supermarket when out and about, I check My Supermarket the night before for offers and add those to my shopping list on the kitchen wall. I take a photo of my shopping list using my phone before I set off to the shops. I can then just head straight for those items when I arrive in store (via the reduced fridge, of course!).
Regarding non-food items eg small appliances, gadgets, etc I quite often see things i like in the shops but hesitate, wondering if it might be cheaper elsewhere. In these cases I take a photo of the item and have a look online when I get home. Nearly always find it cheaper. If not, I might ring the shop and ask them to keep one for me.
If I spot a likely massive bargain on a item I want ( like the air fryer I saw in Lidl the other week I tend to buy one, then find somewhere nearby with free wi-fi and quickly check prices online. I then either keep it or take it back. Otherwise they have sometimes sold out by the time you go back!
Am I dreadful? My OH hates shopping with me. I reckon he would be astounded if he knew how much money I have saved us over time! (I do try to tell him but he just says "yeah yeah yeah, hurry up, then").1 -
The MySupermarket app had a feature to scan the product's barcode so you can check whether what you are thinking of sticking in your basket is currently cheaper elsewhere. I certainly used it; perhaps others were too?1

A bit like the OP, I just recently got a smartphone for the first time. I have never used it in the supermarket. Looking at recipes might be useful but I have a pay -as-you-go phone and I rarely have the mobile data on to keep costs down (I spend only a couple of pounds a month on my phone at the most).
Do supermarkets have Wifi? If they did I might be able to use my smart phone to look up the internet in the supermarket for free.1 -
