Job change during Mortgage application

Hello!
Thinking one of you very helpful people have experienced our current situation.....

Sold our house in September, the first week it was on the market,
Our buyer is renting his out once he moves.
Found a house we loved, offer accepted.
Full mortgage offer received with Nationwide, where we have our current mortgage, current account, savings, credit cards
11 weeks later, vendors hadn't completed any of the required forms, nor provided the fixtures & fittings info, and had been ignoring the estate agents & conveyancers, and they had refused us access to measure up.
We decided to pull out.
The very next day, we found an even better house, in a village we loved.
Offer accepted,
As we were changing property, Nationwide insisted on a full new application, no problem, as the new house was £5k cheaper.
My Husband was then made redundant!
Redundancy pay covers us for 5 months.
Husband has now secured a new job, starting middle of Feb.
Nationwide are now completing another new application, which was all going through, until yesterday when they said they can't release funds until Husband has a payslip!!!
He has signed contract from his new position, they can see we have money in 'their' bank to cover us, and have great credit scores and a LTV of 74%
He may well have missed the February pay run, so wont have a payslip until the end of March, which I do not think our buyer, or the vendor of the house we are buying, will be happy with!

Is this normal?
What can we do?

Comments

  • It is normal, for Nationwide. There are a few other mainstream lenders who may happily lend in this scenario before the first payslip based on the employment contract and employer confirmation. If you are using a broker, ask them. If not, you could always consult with a broker now, getting a mortgage offer doesn't necessarily take a long time.

If you did a whole of market search before selecting the current Nationwide product, you might pay a slightly higher interest rate with a different lender.

There are high street lenders that will lend now, based on the offer letter and contract. (Obviously subject to all checks, underwriting etc).

If you’ve gone direct to Nationwide, consult a broker who should be able to get this sorted for you fairly quickly.
