If the company approached you and claim they are keen to employ you, then they should be making a bit of an effort - but by the same token, you should be confident enough to ask them for clarification of any points on which you are unclear. They could just have a useless HR function, or not have involved HR at all, either of which would explain why the information you've received sounds piecemeal rather than comprehensive.

Asking a bunch of anonymous strangers to confirm/comment on the details of your potential new job doesn't make much sense. Don't let a spurious sense of urgency rush you into signing up to something until you are quite sure what it is you're signing up to.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Both companies are growing so is again a difficult one, I wasn't actively looking but was approached by the other company. My motivator to leave would be that my career path and personal development isn't growing as fast as the business which is why a lot of people have also left recently

My only concern would be that there would be little point moving to the same situation for virtually the same remuneration

What are you doing to take advantage of this situation in your current place.

Sometimes you have to be proactive in developing yourself to be ready to take opportunities.

Given the new offer is only marginally better than the current place you need to have your strategy for any counter offer in place.
  • Was looking for some advice please regards the decision I should make regards a job offer I received today and queries regards the details in it

Currently working as an Ops Manager, was approached by another company regards a slightly larger role within their business, verbal offer made which I asked to be sent through in writing, received today.

First set of queries around job offer, I was told verbally that my working hours would be 8 until 5 but written job offer said I would be working 45 hours per week, surely this isn't the same thing? This would suggest that I don't get any breaks whatsoever or is this my misunderstanding

Second point is that I have been asked to confirm a start date but in the past I have been sent an employment contract first before I have handed my notice in, should I insist on this before I do anything? I currently have an email from the HR Manager stating salary, holidays, working hours but not as a formal contact which I have to sign and return.

Regards the offer itself I am looking for some advice please as am really undecided :-

    Both companies similar sizes
Virtually one mile difference commute between the two
Proposed role slightly larger, 15% pay rise plus 8% guaranteed bonus in first years after 12 months service (current employer introducing bonus scheme this year)
However proposed new role has 5 days less holidays a year than current and no pension scheme (losing about 2% contributions)

I asked about the holidays entitlement today and was told that there's no movement, and told them I would gather any questions and come back after the weekend.

All other benefits appear the same I just need to ask about paid sick pay which wasn't mentioned in the email

Any thoughts please would be gratefully received

Yes fair point and brings me to one of my concerns - at face value with the information I've given would you therefore consider this opportunity only to be marginally better or are you using the turn of phrase that I've used?

It's what you think that matters.

as it was a head hunt why did you not clarify the job in terms of expectations?

    How did they find you?

Do you have a network of contacts that know more about the potential new company and what it is like to work for.

Basically the directors were shown round my factory by my directors and they mentioned to them what a good job I was doing. On that basis they then contacted me and I went for a chat with them on site as it sounded of interest to me.

I've asked around and a couple of people have said they'd heard good things and the business was rapidly expanding which falls in line with the information I was being given.

My only concern is that they seem to have grown very rapidly so there is no infrastructure in place the HR Manager only just has been recruited they have no H and S Manager and it looks like that burden will fall under myself which again I need to clarify

It's a senior management role but to only get statutory holidays is a massive red flag for me
