Best option for HIL
I have recently discovered that I the concrete guttering on my house is leaking badly and will need to be replaced at a cost of £1500. (I've had several repairs over the years but I don't think that is very cost effective.) I just don't have that kind of cash lying around to finance the work but I'm not sure where to go first.
I have a mortgage with Santander with about 5 years left to go and only a small credit card debt. I only work part time due to disability and caring responsibilities so I'm not overwhelmed with income unfortunately.
I just don't know where to start. I have been in touch with the council to see if there are any improvement grants or loans I might claim to help with the work and I'm waiting to hear from them.
I do have buildings insurance but they insist that this isn't covered as the householder is responsible for maintaining the gutters which I have been doing but they have failed again.
I'd be glad of any input or signposting to help come to a workable solution to this little conundrum.
TIA

Could the concrete gutters be replaced with plastic ones?0

Any schemes local to you who would carry out the work but for a smaller fee.
You say you have had a quote, what was the quote for, was it for concrete guttering ? or as mentioned plastic ?0 -
Are you sure the gutters are concrete ?
They would be extremely heavy, why not replace them with plastic ?
A four metre length costs under £15, you may need a roofer/builder to do the job, but it will be a lot less than £1500.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
