Looking for sewing inspiration

I have blagged, from a friend, a pack of material pieces in cotton. In toning designs labelled as Shabby Chic patchwork.

So (sew lol) what to make with them? I did, once, make a patchwork cushion using hexagons and still have that template in my sewing kit).

Each piece is about the size of my laptop keyboard. And there are eight of them.

I'm not a highly skilled sewer; I have a sewing machine.

Thanks in advance.

A shopping bag? A tea cosy?

I am in the throes of sewing a fabric “Quiet Book” for my three year old grandson, and small pieces of fabric are ideal for making the component parts of that. It’s fun to do, but such a lot of work!
  • I have made some lovely patchwork shopping bags, just simple six inch squares joined. I line them with either shower curtain fabric or old sheeting whichever is handy. Useful and pretty . Nice gifts too .

    What a lovely gift!
If you google "fat quarter patchwork" and select 'images' you will be spoiled for choice.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, am keeping an eye on this thread. I bought a mini sewing machine and bundles of 10cm and 25cm fabric bundles for Granddaughter for Christmas. She's already made 2 pillows for her dolls cot/pram and is currently doing a basic patchwork quilt. She seems so interested, will be great to have other ideas for her to make.
  • Table runner.

    Sausage dog draught excluder.

    Both just involve straight seams.

If you back the table runner with a fleecy type fabric you have a reversible scarf or turban.

If you have strips of fabric you can make 'log cabin' design patchwork- all on the machine. Looks very effective but is easy. A single block can be cushion cover or 4 smaller blocks .
If you google there are lots of images, you tube etc. Very effective to do 2 adjacent sides dark, other 2 lighter.
    Enjoy

A lamp shade, perhaps? One with a very simple shape - tubular is easiest. Teamed with an equally simple lamp, a patchwork shade looks stunning.

  • I want to try making reusable bags for vegetables. They seem pretty easy to make!
  • Oh and would like to try and make dungarees for my daughter, but it may take some more learning for that!
