I'm not sure how they managed to keep comfortable and supported with rationing in place.

Edit - I've just been reading this about front and back and side-lacing corsets!  http://www.corsetiere.net/Spirella/War_corsetry.htm

But generally speaking they had habits we could do with bringing back - they aired their clothes overnight instead of discarding them to be washed and wearing a clean one next day - they changed their bodylinen and not their entire outfit daily - clothes were washed less often and so lasted much longer. And no tumble-drying of course!

I do this, I always wear a layer underneath wool items so it doesn't need to be washed too often but I do believe wool is naturally antibacterial so it doesn't get smelly that easily anyway.  I reserve the dryer for towels, sheets, denim, socks and DH's uniform, I never put delicates in there or things like sweatshirts or joggers as it shrinks them horribly.

  • CAFCGirl - I love that blanket, that would cheer anyone up to snuggle up in that.
I have one coupon spend to declare.  I have been using up my stash as well as I get a monthly sewing box subscription so I am counting the coupons for stash to make sure I don't overdo the clothes side of things.  I have been trying to turn fabrics into household goods more recently.  However I did use 1 metre of fabric to make a vest top as I want to start thinking about summer and my summer holiday (although I suspect the holiday will eventually be cancelled).  So that is 3 coupons used.  I am now half way through my coupon allowance (I carried over some from last year).  My next project is to make face masks for my nearest and dearest as I suspect the Government will start telling us we have to wear them.  I have loads of oddments of fabric and fat quarters so that will be a good way to use up my stash, keep my sewing going but not overloading my wardrobe.  I always have to have some sewing project on but I am trying to limit it to one sewing project at a time..  I'm also still ploughing through my baby wool to make hats, blankets and cardigans for premature babies.  I suspect I won't be able to take them in just yet but they will be ready for when I can take them in and it keeps me occupied in the evening when I do eventually get the chance to sit down.  I haven't bought any wool for ages so when I finish these baby things I may have to plan a project to use up the other wool I have left over.  Perhaps I can try a type of rainbow blanket.  We will have to see.

Oh no, @PollyWollyDoodle you poor thing!

If you must share a car, then you could sit behind on the passenger side so the two of you have maximum distance. A neighbour is a coach driver and he said he was surprised how many shifts he is getting because companies who normally use 3 coaches to ferry staff to work, are now booking 6 because each person gets a pair of seats to themselves and then they're staggered in the rows, so if you have a window seat, then the person in front and behind you have aisle seats - apparently that's the recommended thing, so maybe worth trying. Also, you get to do royal waves at passers-by and pretend you have a chauffeur-driven car

No coupons spent here - I helped someone clear her cupboard on Rav, and for a tenner inc postage I have relieved her of just under a thousand metres of utterly gorgeous pure-silk in the most incredible autumnal-copper-rose colours... I'm wondering about using autumnal and sunset colours against the grey for my wedding outfit... or possibly against green instead of grey, dunno, dunno...
This is the kind of colour-range i mean, just before it tips it down but you get that moment of sunlit autumn leaves against a dark dark sky... with the range extending to gold in one direction and blazing scarlet in the other...

Damn Deramores!  They sent me an email saying that my loyalty points would expire at the end of the month unless I purchased something, so I panicked and bought a skein of West Yorkshire Spinners’ Signature Sock yarn in black.  So much for my resolve to not buy yarn!  At least I managed to cash in enough points to get £5 off, so I’m only paying a couple of pennies and P&P.  And it’s black. I’m certain I have another skein of it in black somewhere upstairs in the “wool cave” (aka the back bedroom), so now I have just about enough to knit a black jumper from it.  If I have any coupons left at Christmas, I might buy a third ball to guarantee it (and there will be enough left over for a pair of socks).

2 coupons spent, bringing my total to 29/66.
