Before I say anything else, I LOVE YOU ALL!!! You are such lovely people.
@Shropshirelass, please stay and play. You're very welcome in our virtual village hall. Just nudge the dog and he'll get off that armchair, so you can sit near the fire. Do have a cuppa and a piece of cake.
@TwibbleDee, as the resident "Colonial Commoner", I'll partner up with you for the Three Legged Race.
I think Birmingham is probably the most central and has the most direct train services, OTHABO. Love the idea of a tee-shirt @Cherryfudge or an enamelled badge we could wear on our coats. (I think the WI's were very keen on giving out enamelled badges during the War.) I have a "Knitters House Captain" badge somewhere that I bought at a show. Wonder if it's got the details of manufacture on it? (Hmm.... Wonder where I put it. It was from Unwind Brighton in 2015.)

Margot was wonderful. I think this group would bewilder her somewhat but she would pull on her (specially purchased) Hunter wellies and tweed jacket and try her best, because that was her great redeeming feature (apart from being hilarious). She will probably sign us up as marshals for Pony Club rallies if we stand still long enough.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

The funny thing is, brown skies are so normal, there's not even a note of it in the news that I can link to! At least it wasn't a haboob - literally a wall of dirt that rolls through due to storms every once in a while.
I do wish there was a way for me to take a shower before going back into work after walking/running during lunch. Are you a suitable height to partner with me? (Just over 5'!)
I can fairly well guarantee the weather will not cause breathing problems in Much Mending.
I'm lucky in that I live extremely close to work and my running routes start at my door so I can grab a shower, fling my uniform on and be out of the door without having to plan a separate visit. I hope the day comes when working times are adjustable to allow employees to keep up their physical fitness: longer lunch breaks would really help here where it's already getting gloomy at 2.30pm: safer too if people don't have to take exercise after dark, or could start the day with a walk or run in summer before it gets hot.

(The course I delivered that day was called "The Complete Vampire: Blood and How to Take It", inspired by a colleague who had excellent veins. You can take the girl out of nursing, but you can't take the nurse out of the girl...)Cherryfudge said:TwibbleDee said:

Laura, this time of year is usually hard on my DD too. She bought a SAD lamp to help but getting outside is good too, and your daily walks must be doing you some good, even if you don't know it yet.
I can't believe you are(nearly) 52!!! You look much younger.😊
You are my inspiration to get out more, DH and I have been trying to go for a short walk 3 or 4 times a week, and I often say "Laura on the forum does/says/has .....".
I consider you to be my friend, virtual or whatever!
My RL friend would say, "Remember that you are precious in God's sight."
Take care and look after yourself. xx2025 Fashion on the ration

Ooh, badges... I feel like a member of a secret society!
("What's on your brooch, Cherry?" *Taps side of nose and winks* "Oh, this? I'd forgotten I had it on." *Changes subject hurriedly*)
What a shame about the boots... though it may be worth checking the website in case they have any returned. Nice to have a few extra coupons, though.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Oooh, I feel so much better today! Partly you lot being so encouraging, and partly because I properly, actually, really took the rest of the day off yesterday, turned off the internet except for checking once or twice, hours apart, went and curled up and read an Angela Thirkell (Pomfret Towers), jus happily curled up round a ho-water bottle and read for hours, nibbling crisps and chocolate, and then we didn't have supper at all, just more crisps and chocolate
And I put the light out about ten and slept right through til just before 7, and today is, as Scarlett said, another day...!

Girls, I'm debating what to do regarding the sleeve-heads of my Lady's Lacy Jumper. (Ravelry link.) Your advice, please. The pattern is not written to reflect the photo attached to it. If you look carefully at the two photos, the one from the original pattern shows several rows of ?garter stitch, right at the top of the sleeve. However, if you look at the colour photo from the only other project, that does not show any. That sleeve head was knitted according to the pattern instructions, which state: work in pattern for 3 inches from the armhole shaping, cast off. I'm at that point now.
What do you think? Should I attempt to replicate the original photo's sleeve head? Or just be happy doing it the way it's written. I've tried the body on and the shoulders are about right for me, with maybe a centimetre of the very top of my arm projecting on either side. I am tempted to add 10 rows of garter stitch. What do you think?

@Laura_Elsewhere, good to hear you've had a decent sleep and plenty of chocolate (and hopefully you have some sunshine too?). Guaranteed to make anyone feel more resilient.
@PipneyJane, I like the set of the sleeves in the original pattern, I can only suggest working those rows and trying it on again.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
