I still haven't got the hang of my bust being noticeable! But luckily for me, having almost never worn a bra, I don't actually need to. I have some but they are decorative rather than anything essential. I did start experimenting with sewing my own and must get back to that...
I'm so glad your next 45 years are sunnier. And hopefully the 45 after these, too...
@PipneyJane, those are wonderful. Your Mum's look particularly snug, but who could resist a yarn called 'The Road to Socialism'?!

Sorry, y’all. I just now caught up and realized that without knowing where I am in Texas, the storms could cause people worry about me. Let’s just say I’m more likely to get caught in a haboob (massive dust storm - google for some epic pictures!) than I am a hurricane. The coast is a good 8-10 hour drive from me.
I’ve been busy with work (even on Saturday evening!) this week and hadn’t thought to check in. I’ve gotten nowhere with my knitting as I’ve not had the time to sit down and do it! I may be making more masks tomorrow; Mom gave me some of the metal pieces to fit in the nose so they don’t fog your glasses so much.2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.4 -
I'd never heard of a 'haboob' before - the pictures are awesome! Glad you are okay, and I hope you get some down time soon.

Oh @TwibbleDee, I am pleased you are well away from my namesake Hurricane's damage!
I find the metal strips make all the difference with home-made masks - my glasses are a very useful indicator of whether I've got the fit correct over my nose. If they are steaming up, I need to adjust it some more - it's so funny seeing advice to people to put stuff on to stop their specs steaming up, when the whole point of specs steaming up is that it means your breath is coming straight out of the mask, in the form of water-droplets for heaven's sake, so the mask is not working!I also check my mask is moving in when I breathe in and out when I breathe out, because the whole point is that you breathe *through* it - if you can't breathe through it, then it ain't working!
@Cherryfudge - no worries re muddling up names. I'm just pleased at how many people love my Mum's ankle-warmers in particular, and appreciate the name of Dad's somewhat more prosaic ones
A real push this month on getting things finished. I have such a list of partly-made things, it's embarrassing, stupid and annoying. I am having Sort-It-Out September!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:
January (29): winter boots, green trainers, canvas swimming-shoes (15); t-shirt x2 (8); 3m cotton twill (6);
.
2025 second-hand acquisitions (no coupons): None thus far
.
2025 needlework- *Reverse-couponing*:11 coupons :
January: teddybear-lined velvet jacket (11) & hat (0); velvet sleep-mask (0);4 -
I’m glad you’re OK, @TwibbleDee. I have friends in Houston, who are on the evacuation route away from the coast. They’ve hunkered down for the duration.
Sort-it-out-September? I like the idea @Laura_Elsewhere. I’d adopt it but I doubt that I’ll have the drive to actually do anything. I can just about manage to do two of my three-impossible-things-before-breakfast (Duolingo French and my morning run); I’m still pushing to do my third (vocal exercises since I’m a singer and my voice suffered a lot of damage due to December’s “weird cold” that attacked my larynx).
Does anyone else have frugal plans for September?
Talking about Bravissimo, I received an email from them yesterday, saying that they’re closing their Ealing store (their first shop and the branch closest to me). They’re blaming Lockdown but the truth is that it’s been under threat ever since Westfield opened 5 miles away. Ealing began dying as a shopping centre soon afterwards, when all the big chains migrated up to Westfield and the footfall dwindled. (Bravissimo have opened a shop at Westfield.)

I like the sound of sorting things out in September, or taking on a frugal challenge but I'm not signing up as I've rather over-committed myself so far! I have two weeks off and we are planning to spend time working on my parent's old house (which needs to be on the market soon), and I've also started a CPD course which is proving quite challenging. I suppose it's frugal in its way as I'm not paying the extra to have an exam and certificate: it's free without those and there's no point doing them as it won't affect my work.
What a shame about Bravissimo.

I like the idea of “sort it out September”. However, I have probably mentioned before that at the beginning of lockdown I got all my UFOs out of the cupboard, on the basis that if I couldn’t finish them in lockdown they would never get done… The pile still awaits.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.5

What a shame about Bravissimo.
It’s from “Through the Looking Glass” and was - I think - said by the Red Queen: "There's no use trying," she said: "one can't believe impossible things." "I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."
