Apologies. I didn't keep up
Yeah it was, now it's called the 'Living Wage' or 'Real Living Wage' and is promoted by the Living Wage Foundation (https://www.livingwage.org.uk/)
It's a similar situation to that you described regarding going on a special list as an employer that optionally pays the RLW.Know what you don't0 -
I think the NLW limits low skilled pay. It seems to be the set rate, not a minimum.
What really annoys me is i work for a company and its very obvious that there are some staff deserving of being paid more than their colleagues yet are restricted due to what is essentially 'fairness'. I appreciate the fact that more liberal rules allow for manipulation but i think ultimate power lies in the hands of the employee, you dont like it leave. Youll find out soon enough if its them with the issue or you, if youre replaced very easily, you where too demanding, if youre not replaced, they need to be offering better incentives.0 -

Whatever next?
Maybe for their next trick they'll have us vote for something and when it's not what they want they'll just pretend we all voted the way they wanted us to anyway. Hmm.0 -
I'm a supervisor and i currently get £8.74 ph I've just been told that because of the current circumstances I will not be getting a pay rise in April it will be at a later date, this means that my team who I'm in charge of will be on just 2p ph less than me, I think that this is disgraceful, even when my wage finally goes up it will only be by about 18p ph so that will still only make me 16p ph more than them, it's a nation wide company so I know I'm not the only one this is happening to.0

@nez1880 unfortunately given the circumstances, I don't think it's entirely unreasonable, but I am sure that you aren't alone. I've not seen anything to confirm either way, but it's possible that the national living wage increase will be postponed because businesses are struggling.
At my company all pay reviews globally have been postponed to September, with the potential to push out further - nobody knows how long the world is going to be dealing with Covid-19, and how long it'll take our economies to recover. We're being encouraged to take holiday now, or reduce our hours if we don't have much work on, but down the line we could be facing pay cuts and redundancies.0 -
As a nearly 40 odd year old having to work through lunch every single day foc, my 16k salary amounts to £8.79 ph for the 35 hour week with a contract that prohibits a 2nd job.
(but still least it isn't a zero hour contract and there have been joyful transport companies who achieved £7.50 odd for nearing 50 hours in the past when an 18 or 19k salary should have looked respectful) Both sides of the sword will hurt.

I don't think we'll have to worry, I full expect this to get cancelled shortly.0
