    Thank you :)

    How's it going?

You will do this! I heartily recommend looking for a part time job on top of your main job... If you can find something. It's helped me a lot.

Also, have you looked into shared ownership? You need a smaller deposit. Orbit and Moat have houses in my area of the SE.

    Good luck!
I will definitely have a look, thanks :)

So I cant log into my old account on here for some reason.... so I just made a new one! There have been lots of life changes for me recently, I spent a few weeks in Edinburgh looking for a job and managed to get a super casual self employed commission-only sales role. This was rubbish but I ended up getting a perm sales job in Glasgow based off this experience which is min wage + commission. I have been living out of a hostel all this time but I'm moving into a super cheap studio flat next week. The money situation is a bit !!!!!! at the moment and my debt has got worse because of all the changes etc but I am hopeful because property here is so much cheaper than the SE of England. When I get all sorted with my accommodation I'm going to look for a weekend job so I can earn some extra money for savings :)

Well everything has gone from bad to worse for me with coronavirus! But I'm still here fighting :)

So I moved into a studio flat in a lovely area of Glasgow which is £550 p/m incl all bills. I'm still looking everyday for a flat share which could be cheaper but nothing has come up yet and its also difficult to do viewings with everything going on.
I couldn't get furloughed as I started my new job a week after the cut off date which is absolutely rubbish. My boss very kindly offered to pay me furlough anyway out of his own money so my current income is £800 p/m.
I told my landlord I had been furloughed and told him my income and asked if he could reduce my rent and he said no so I'm living on £250 p/m which needs to cover food, petrol, car insurance, mobile and paying off existing debt. I've really struggled on this amount for the past month and I'm going further into debt. I'm shopping at Lidl and doing meal prep and living on lentils and I'm not sure there is much more I can do in terms of cutting costs. I'm looking for another job, I've sent out so many applications but I'm not hearing anything.... But I'm still trying! If anyone has any advice or suggestions on what I can do it would be really appreciated...

  • Hello everyone! Finally getting my head out of the sand about my finances. I'm still on furlough but sinking more into debt each day :( I had a look yesterday and my debt is now up to £2384 :#
I thought I would do something productive on furlough but I've mostly been trying to stay mentally sane. This year has been such a bumpy ride and it feels like I'm drifting further and further behind where I wanted to be when I made this thread. Getting a house seems impossible at this point!! But I will not give up. Here's to picking myself up and starting again....

Hi.  You've been having a pretty rough time of it all, but congratulations to you for having the courage to follow your dreams.  Yes, Covid has made a mess of a lot of peoples lives, but it will end at some point in the future, and hopefully, you can think about picking yourself up and starting again.  Look on the positive side, you have a great employer!  Some people are not as lucky as you unfortunately.  Don't feel bad about sinking further into debt at the moment, it can't be helped, especially with your landlord being so unforgiving.  You are doing ok.  Try to keep a lid of the spending so as to not accrue debt unnecessarily, but I think you know that already.

Good luck with the job search and with finding cheaper accommodation.

  • Hi,   :)
Have ypu done a new SOA for yourself based on furlough wage and new rent.
I think you need to give every pound a job - rough count is you have £250 to pay for car, food etc ..so let's budget that.
Do a food check and list what you have so you can buy things to make meals to go with that.
Do you have anything say a handbag, toiletries, shoes, clothes etc that you don't use that you could sell on eBay, vinted, gumtree, facebook selling page(?) for some extra funds. That could also be productive.
Don't be to hard on yourself at the moment.
