Not being paid NVQ Enchancement

Options
Hello, I’ve worked at a care home for five years and given an extra 40p an hour for my Level 3 in Health and Social Care that I did on the college. I left to take a break from working in care and then came back in May but since then I’ve not had my enhancement.

When it was chased up the head office said because it’s a BTEC qualification, it does not apply but looking online it says my qualification a level 3 btec extended diploma is NVQ equivalent.

Is it worth contacting my union for advice or just accept that I will never get the enhancement.

I also did the care certificate b

That was a strange question that they answered. Why would anyone think a L3 qualification could ever be equivalent to one at L5?

However I suppose it does also suggest that a straightforward L3 BTEC is not equivalent to a NVQ L3.

The OP was asking about a BTEC Extended Diploma. Did this include practical observation of the candidate?

As they are a member of a TU then they should take it up with the Union.
  • Can you share the information with HO that confirms the qualification is equivalent? Failing that ask them if they will put you through the L3 Diploma that is work-based, it is quite different in content to the BTEC. If they do agree to let you do the Diploma (used to be NVQ) then you might find there are funding issues due to you already having a BTEC though. But this would give you a case for the rise.

I have a level 3 health and social care qualification that isn’t an NVQ but it was always accepted as equivalent.

I used to run a care home and we couldn’t get funding for staff with other level 3 care related quals to do their NVQ. Funding has changed though recently so I can’t say for sure this is still the case. But you have care knowledge at L3 so I feel your company are being very mean.
  • I had to do a both course work and practical work. I did a lot of placement hours. They were asking if people wanted to do their NVQs, I signed up for it. They didn’t say why BTEC didn’t qualify for the enchancement, they just said it didn’t. Either way it seems they have no intention in giving me the enchancement.

I was considering looking for another job as I. Ah see myself struggling in the future. Do like my job though.

I emailed my union about it. In November I was only paid just under £800 for one week I was off sick and my basic monthly rate is £1100. The enchancent and backpay I was hoping for would have made a big impact.

Isn’t it down to the employer?

The level might be equivalent but if an employer specifies a specific qualification and you don’t hold this surely you can’t be paid the extra?
  • Other people with the same BTEC qualification as me are still being paid their enhancement. So why have they said Motome but yes to others.

Because they didn't leave and come back? An enhancement isn't a right, it's a term of employment. They have that term in their employment contract, just as you once did. You no longer have that term. There is no legal reason why the employer has to pay the enhancement or pay everybody the same amount.
