Tapi carpets laminate returns policy

I got some laminate flooring today and when I got it home decided I didn’t like the colour of it in the room. We weren’t made aware of any returns policy when buying the flooring and only received an email receipt a few hours after we left the store. The returns states:
When estimating appropriate floor coverage for your installation approximately 5% (rounded up to the nearest box) will need to be added to your order to allow for colour matching between boxes and wastage during fitting. If you have a surplus box or two after fitting, we would suggest these be stored on a flat dry surface for future use. These are often useful to be kept should an accident occur enabling you to swap a couple of planks or tiles. Any unopened boxes which are returned will be refunded at 50% of the original box purchase price
Where do you think we would stand in returning the flooring. As we wouldn’t have necessarily bought it if we had known this. We would be returning the whole amount

In store and you expected to be able to return?
Sorry no, your expectations were far above the minimum they have to do by law.
If it was important to you the time to ask was before purchase.0 -
Thanks for the reply but there’s no reason to be rude. I was asking if I would be able to return an item and it’s not a returns policy that I would expect seeing as most stores accept returns within a certain time frame without offering less that the price it’s was bought for. Just feel that this should be mentioned at the time of purchase especially seeing as we asked about returning an extra pack if we needed to0

Stores offering returns is above what they need to offer by law...
I would phone them and speak to them. If you are looking to exchange rather than refund they would be a lot more forthcoming.
If it is just a refund you’re after then given Tapi have had cash flow issues then this is highly unlikely. The store manager will not want to give up his commission...Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Thanks for your reply. I did call earlier and had someone on the phone that said “I think you can return” didn’t sound very convinced I took his name so might call the store tomorrow and ask again and see if someone else can be more helpful0

Not rude, matter of fact.
And no, most shops do not have a returns policy above what they are legally required to. (ie, none for change of mind).
Those that do have one tend to shout about it, as you know, they do not have to do that. By not mentioning one most people would asssume they have none.
Maybe you have just been very lucky in where you shop.0 -
The person on the phone was helpful and correct - you can return; just not for a full refund.
By getting someone else do you just mean someone who tells you what you want to hear?
A useful tip - don’t ever assume a return policy as they vary wildly from store to store0 -
No not at all just when you speak to someone in store you don’t expect a wishy washy reply I want a yes or no answer not I think
I wasn’t aware that returns policy could vary so much just assumed that they were all return within a certain time frame. I totally accept that assuming is my fault will definitely check i the future.0 -
It’s a lesson I learned many years ago - but I remembered ever since!
Maybe it’s worth selling yourselves?
Good luck either way0
