HMRC enquiry

Hi,
HMRC want proof of income for 17 to 18 tax year.
This income came from overseas company.
This company is now closed.
So, I have no means to contact them for this information.
How should I inform HMRC of this?

Comments

  • Do you have any wage slips, bank statements, proof of tax paid to the overseas government - their equivalent of our P60.

Ring them and ask their adviceand after that provide proof in writing.

  • Another quick question - where you based in the UK or living/working overseas?

You must have something to confirm the source of the income, i.e. email chains, a contract, or whatever. You can also send them copies of all your bank statements showing the income being received. In an enquiry, they're looking more for proof that you haven't understated your sales income, so showing them your bank statements matching your tax return is a good starting point.
