If you get in touch with a few IFAs, you should be able to get the initial appointments free and you can walk away after that if you don't like any. You need to make sure they are definitely Independent FAs and you should steer clear of Wealth Managers as they are usually expensive.

So far I haven’t found anyone to recommend a IFA so I will have to do a search.

Is it better to pick people reasonably local or doesn’t it matter to much?
  • Update:

I have had my Pension Wise appointment today which lasted 1hr 10mins and was very interesting although didn't go into specifics. We have also got full state pension forecasts coming from DWP.

In the last 2 days I have paid an extra £20k into my pension (£24k with tax relief) and have paid £10k into my wife's with another £20k to go (£36k with tax relief). This will reduce our cash savings total, we will do the same in the new tax year as well.

I am waiting for 3 Equitable Life pensions to transfer to Utmost before either combing them or transferring them to my main pension.

I am going to transfer my Virgin ISA to a s&s ISA when it finishes at the end of January.

I am still looking for a IFA, but will set up some meetings in January.

So thanks for the on going help, it is getting me to make decisions!

It is worth using AdviserBook as you can select Confirmed Independent during the search.

    Good luck!

    Kind regards
