If you have staining a visit with a dental hygienist will not only get rid of staining , but also tartar , make your gums healthier and also show you how to stop staining building up again.

This will cost £25 to £50 ish

There is nothing you can buy over the counter that will whiten teeth and anything that will remove stain will be acid /abrasive or both. Most products sold for this purpose are extremely damaging eg pearl drops etc and the only thing I would use them for is cleaning bathroom grouting.
  • ^ a hygienist visit is something I'm considering, but she usually works in an upstairs room without a lift so it may be beyond a 'reasonable accommodation' to ask to see her in the one ground floor room (where my dentist normally works). I kind of want to be sure there's nothing effective I could at least try myself before investigating the possibility, or looking into where I might find another hygienist without having to change dental practices (I don't know if that's even possible?)

Sorry to hijack your thread OP!
  • I cant seem to find any hygienist near me...?

Is this a place that does the scraping and polish?

Hygenist won't get rid of stains, you need the proper whitening, done properly at the dentist costing over £200.

A hygiene visit will get rid of tea ,coffee , red wine stains etc. However it will not whiten the teeth.

Most teeth look yellow not because of staining but because that is their natural colour which gets yellower as you age and as more yellow coloured dentine is laid down in the tooth. No one was born with Simon Cowell coloured teeth. That ultra bright look is achieved by hacking away large amounts of enamel and replacing it with porcelain.

Teeth whitening will brighten the underlying colour of your teeth and that can only be legally and safely provided at a dental surgery.
  • About 10 years ago I used Listerine Strips which I bought in the USA. They were fine, 10 minutes twice a day, and a considerable improvement.

Unfortunately, these are no longer made, so two years ago I bought the Crest strips. These are to be used for 30 minutes daily, for ten days. After three days my gums were sore, do I stopped using them. Not worth the risk.
  • The soda spray treatment is apparently called AIR-FLOW. I would recommend finding a hygienist that offers this as part of the normal visit. It should make your teeth look noticeably whiter if you have some staining.

It is illegal to buy these in U.K. ,Europe and many other countries. The people selling them are breaking the law knowingly. How likely is it you will get counterfeit product or one that contains chemicals at greater concentration than stated.
