Opening and reading the letter is of no relevance and is not a crime. Just send it back as before maybe with a covering note stating that the person named does not live there. Have your tenancy agreement and docs handy in case anyone does turn up.

If its not you named in the letters, then its not your problem.
You are best advised having nothing to do with the proceedings whatsoever, if county court bailiffs come looking for this person, simply tell them they no longer reside there.

They may ask you for ID, its your choice to show it to them or not.
Just return the letters as "not at this address" and have no more to do with it, do not get dragged into someone elses problems.

A relative of ours opened someones mail (long story) and a solicitor told them in no uncertain terms that it was in fact a crime.

Unless you tell us the whole story then all people can say is that generally speaking you're wrong.

It's only an offence if you intend to act to the recipients detriment.

    The OP hasn't done that.

Or do I let bailiffs arrive playing coy and tell them that person doesn’t live here .

If you were a debt adviser, then you'll know what happens. And you'll know that you are just wasting the bailiffs time by allowing them to make the wasted journey coming to see you.

Did you have a bad experience when you were a DA and this is some sort of karma - or do you just have time on your hands to post here?
Unlike some here, I am not omniscient. If I am wrong correct me. I won't take offence.
