A month ago I fixed up a Henry hoover that I got free and it does make carpet look nice, but doesn't seem as powerful . I did take the brush part off and clean inside and put WD40 onto the moving parts and that made it a little faster but still not that great it is correctly set to high and the brushes are moving at speed so I doubt any blockages.
It gets the job done no complaints its just it doesn't seem to pick up much compared to my VAX one that had a cylinder that could fill 1/4-1/3 in a weekly clean, though most of that was dust and lint.
I for the sake of it tried emptying the bag (I know you are meant to replace them but it was a test to see how well it was doing) and I was lucky to get a small cups amount of stuff in there.
I don't want to use the VAX as its heavy, awkward, shorter cable and due to the amount of dust it picks up I wash the cylinder after each use and it takes hours to dry even if I put it on a radiator.
Is this normal for the Henry?

I am surprised that Henrys are still on the market, but that they are and are still so popular tells me that they work.
The problem is these days the technology has moved on, so what was once perfectly adequate has been superseded by technology-driven expectations.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I've had a Henry for years, it just goes on and on. I've never thought about it, never compared it, but now VfM you have put doubt in my mind:mad::(Love living in a village in the country side0 -
After watching some poor woman using a Hnery trying to clear the floor of a post office, completely ineffectually (the look on her face, poor thing, she knew it was a waste of time) my feelings about how useless Henry's are were reinforced. I too wonder why they are so popular. Never impressed me when I have been forced to use them. Suction is so bad. No way will they deal with dog hair. If you are only getting small amounts of dust compared to usual, there's no way its doing any good, sorry. The brush may be moving the pile of your carpet around, but not removing the dust from under the top of the pile.
Sometimes you get what you pay for. There must be a reason the other person replaced it.0 -
Well thinking about it I believe I know why the VAX was better, I have a thin lino more than a carpet and the VAX was set to lowest floor setting so it had a lot of suction, the Henry picks up but the attachment is above the floor by quite a bit.
It does clean the carpet, any crumbs of dirt etc are always picked up and the carpet does look cleaner than the VAX its just its not getting much into the bag.0
