Looking for advice

I was wondering if anyone can advise me.

My marriage is ending and our house that we bought a year and a half ago is in my husbands name. I paid half the deposit for the mortgage and pay half of all the bills. But my credit rating wasn’t good enough at the time to get on the mortgage.

Could anyone advise me what I can do? Can he throw me out.
Any help appreciated thanks

  • So sorry to hear about your situation. Find a good solicitor as soon as possible and discuss your options with them. You can normally get a 30 min free consultation. Do you have options over the Christmas period in terms of family/friends to get support from?

This might be a helpful link with plenty of info. Not an expert though. Did you make payments to the mortgage directly or to your husband so he could pay? Best to get your bank statements and financial info in order now too.

I’ve seen non married friends end up the worse off in separations when contributing to the mortgage unofficially. Your marital status will help when it comes to a divorce split of assets though. I’m seeing more and more on here women specifically struggling as they’ve let their partner take over the financials and end up with no mortgage or pensions etc. Hoping this awful time for you will at least help you learn to establish some financial independence in the future because you never know what’s round the corner. Best of luck with it all.
