I would imagine that D will be your DVD drive, so try this

Note the stops

Go to Advanced CMOS options
Can you see first bootable device or something like that?
If so, use the arrow keys to get to that, and then use the option to change it to USB device0 -

went there and did as suggested but still no luck.... didn't even have an option for usb???????

Ok, go to this page, download and unzip windows XP quickboot
Copy the contents of the unzipped file to your flash drive
Now boot your lappy, with the flash drive in0 -

Yes, make sure you have copied the file to the sub stick, and press the F8 to hopefully bring up safe mode0
