When to renew season ticket before price hike?

Options
Hi

Can anyone tell me when is the last possible date I can renew my season ticket for the new year 2020, from where I live into London, before the price goes up.

My current card key smart card is active up until 31st December 2019.

New fares take effect 3 January 2020. So buy for from 2 January.

Check with the train company though, don't believe someone simply telling you that on an anonymous forum.
  • Worth pointing out some charge based on when the ticket starts as opposed to when it's bought.

Thanks, sure I will double check this with them, but good to have a general idea, I don't think you would of said 3rd January if you were just guessing, makes me think you are pretty certain about that as you sound like you have already investigated this.

That is a very good point, will need to double check this.
  • I was also going to ask that if my key smart card runs until 31st December, but then I renew it for another year to start on 1st January 2020, does that mean I will wipe out any usage of it that I still have left if I was to renew on a date before 31st Decembe?
  • Is there a benefit by renewing rather than buying a completely new season ticket? If not buy it on the last day before the price hike.

    Hiya

I've just checked mine - for me the price is from when the ticket starts. If I buy in starting from 1st Jan it costs £1,900, if I buy it starting from 2nd Jan, it is £1,952.

I usually speak to the chap at the station and he starts it from the date I request. Definitely check online before you go to buy it though to make sure you are getting the lower price! I have nearly fallen foul of that one before :j
    Little Boy arrived 21st July 2008, 5lbs 3oz :j
    New bump due 7th April 2011! :T
    Arrived 6th April 2011 6lbs 1oz :o
