  • As stated in my post the basic bank accounts are for people who are bankrupt, thankfully I'm not in that position, so your comment isn't particularly relevant

    No they're not.

    Whoever told you that misinformation?

'Basic bank accounts are free, no-fee accounts aimed at Brits with poor credit score or other financial issues.'

    Not just that, no.

Again, where are you quoting this misinformation from?

'You should still be able to have a bank account after you go bankrupt and once you've been discharged from bankruptcy, but it will be a basic bank account. During bankruptcy, your current bank is very unlikely to allow you to keep your account if you have an overdraft or other debts with them'
I know people who have opened basic bank accounts when bankrupt, so I find it difficult to understand why I can't open one when my situation isn't as bad

A quick search of 'who are basic bank accounts for' can provide this information to you

You are the one who seems to be misinformed

'Basic bank accounts are particularly designed for people with poor credit scores, who won't pass the credit check for standard bank accounts. Because of this, past credit problems – such as CCJs, defaults, or having been declared bankrupt in the past year – aren't usually a barrier.'

  • Then there's something else on your credit files that's preventing this.

If you already have a Monzo account why do you need another Basic account?

You already have a current account why do you want a basic account as well?
£1000 is quite a lot of cash to handle in 6 months.

I'm a student so I work part time and paid in cash
£1000 is not a lot for 6 months

I've signed up to numerous credit reports as I thought they may be a CCJ due to having lost my passport a while back. There's nothing there - a poor credit history and 2 defaults but this is only from the past 2 months, the defaults weren't there when I had applied for the basic accounts.

As I said, I get paid in cash so my Monzo account makes it difficult for me to pay cash into my account, there is a limit of £1000 every 160 days
