Maybe some of us wouldn’t feel that way if it wasn’t so unrelentingly shoved in our faces constantly from October every year. If Christmas preparations dominate some people’s existence for 25% of the year, that’s their choice, just don’t inflict that nonsense on me!
I lost count of the number of conversations I had during November which began ‘are you all set for Christmas?’ - honestly, it’s all some people can talk about!

At least this year we had the General Election as a distraction (and I never thought a General Election would bring welcome respite from anything!)

My solution is to avoid the High Street/shopping centres after September. I’m not subjected to Christmas ‘music’ when shopping online.

When the day comes, I will have a very pleasant family day with my daughter and son-in-law, my parents and my brother and his family, but we do that several times a year anyway. We will exchange gifts - nothing too expensive/extravagant - and enjoy being together.
As for the rest of the nonsense - count me out!

But why do you let it bother you? Yes the shops are decorated differently and they are playing different types of music but so what?. Shops are decorated differently other times of the year and just play different music then instead. What does it really matter if it's a Christmas song or not?.

I certainly wouldn't say Christmas is being "shoved in your face". Yes some people may talk about it a lot but what's the problem in that?. People often talk about things they are passionate about and even if it's not something i take part in i still take an interest in their conversation.

I actually don't have a Christmas Tree or any decorations in my house and i never send out any Christmas cards because i have little interest in that. But i like seeing the decorations and don't mind hearing the music when out and about.

Some people seem to live a life of Work, TV, Sleep, Repeat for most of the year so it's nice to see them do something different at Christmas time.

I don’t know why Christmas ‘music’ bothers me, it just does, it’s like fingernails being scraped down a blackboard. If it was limited to just December maybe it wouldn’t be so bad... Maybe because I don’t enjoy it, I notice it more?

I actually know quite a lot of people who start avoiding town centres once the lights go up and the music starts, for lots of different reasons, which is a shame. I’d really rather support my local high street but just find it unbearable.

I can't believe so many people want to cancel christmas just because they don't like it. I hate the "I don't like something so I want to ruin it for everyone who does" attitude and these people must live very sad lives to want to ruin other people's fun.

There are lots of things I don't enjoy personally but i would never call for them to be cancelled.

You do realise this is just a fun poll on a forum and not some sort of referendum don't you. :p

You can calm down, Christmas isn't actually getting cancelled. Sadly.

Christmas doesn't do much for me and can't say I enjoy it but definitely wouldn't cancel it. I love the enjoyment it gives to young children (as it once did for me over 60 years ago!)
  • I wouldn’t vote to cancel it but like sex I wish people would just do it .
I don’t want to know how many presents you have wrapped. How much you spent on food , which relatives are coming on what days .
It’s very very boring to hear people endlessly talk about it .
It is something that should be done how you like , with who you like but don’t subject your workmates to a detailed account.
Much like your sex life .

We went shopping in Waitrose today. They had a little brass band outside playing traditional carols. It was lovely. When they played a French carol I hadn’t heard for donkeys year I started singing along. Got a funny look from OH but I enjoyed it. :D
  • I don't think Christmas should be cancelled. I like the atmosphere and the general feeling of good will and the decorations that brighten up an otherwise gloomy time of year. What I don't like is the pressure to spend money on gifts that people don't need. I recently cleared out my mother in law's bedroom and found a stack of unused presents that the family had bought her over the years. It made me realise how unnecessary presents are at Christmas. I told friends and family that I didn't want presents and I wasn't going to buy any this year. I was surprised at how well this was received by everyone and there was a general feeling of relief. I don't have any young children in my family at the moment and if I did, I would still buy them presents but my overall feeling is keep Christmas but do away with presents.
