I know how a BR works and runs
With a DRO though...
I read/assume one applies, pays the fee and if granted all debts are "frozen" for a year and written off after a year if the applicants position financially remains unchanged.
What happens after the year of the DRO, do they (stepchange) contact the applicant and go through everything again?
can the creditors approach the debtor and start debt collecting again?
cheers

Assuming you don`t report any changes to your circumstances, when the 12 month monotorium period is over, the debts are written off completly, and you are no longer liable for them.
The only involvement stepchange will have is as your initial intermediary, they will submit your application for you, after which, they play no further part in the proceedings, your DRO is administered by the insolvency service from then on, however, other than to confirm your DRO has been granted, and as long as your circumstances do not change, you won`t hear from then again either, after their initial letter.
12 months later the DRO will end, and you will be debt free, there is no fanfare, no certificate, although you can request one, and no further contact from anyone, bit of a let down really.
As for creditor contact, its not unusual (i feel a song coming on...) for some debts to be sold on during the monotorium period, just remember, whatever they say or do, you have 100% legal protection from them, so they have no remedy against you whatsoever.
If, for example, a debt collector is still trying to collect an account included in your DRO, you just send them a copy of your paperwork, or your inclusion on the insolvency register, usually it does the trick, if not, contact the IS, and they will deal with them for you, plus you have the option of the financial ombudsman, the same as everyone else.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
